Your guide to buying a smartphone

There are many smartphone brands out there and choosing one can be quite tough.  No worries, we’ve come up with a quick guide that’ll make your shopping spree as easy as a breeze.

Here are the basic must knows when purchasing one:

1.)    Know your Mobile platform.

Unless you aspire to be an app maker, Going for Android OS is much cheaper and efficient than Apple’s iOS. But hey, you’re not even a developer so what’s the fuss? Yep, we know.

Anyway, if you prefer to have a unified OS for both smartphone and tablet ( if you plan to purchase one in the near future) then go for Apple’s iOS. On the other hand, Google android has two OS for tablets and smartphones unfortunately; Google Android decided to hit hard on Apple by launching their very own Android 4.0 ice cream sandwich designed for both tablets and smartphones.

It all boils down to user’s preference and style.  As for user interface, do you prefer accessing your apps through horizontal swiping? Then Apple’s iOS might be a solution.  Perhaps apps reachable on your home screen?  Go Android 4.0 ice cream.

2.)    Touch screen or qwerty?

If you’re the type who loves “tapping” then go for touch screen. Be wary though, when you’re in a rush, you might “accidentally” press “f” instead of “r”.  Don’t be furious when you GF yells when she receives the message “fock with you tonight” as a substitute to the intended message “rock with you tonight ”. Perhaps qwerty keyboard will do?

3.)    Dual or single sim?

If you have two lines , one for business and personal use  and don’t have the time to talk to the Boss while messaging your mom,  go get a smartphone that offers a dual sim feature. Saves time and don’t use that lousy reason you forgot your other phone ok?

4.)    Weight

Do you prefer a heavy, bulky phone or a phone that’s lighter than a feather? Weight matters!

5.)    Battery life

Don’t you hate it when battery drains so fast? What kind of battery does it use? Li-on?

6.)    Internal Memory  and Card slot

Downloading a lot of apps requires bigger memory and an additional card slot to add more memory to your phone.  Aww yeah! More space for downloads!

7.)    Camera and video quality

If you’re a photography lover , but refuses to bring DLSR everywhere find a smartphone that offers a camera with the best mega pixel. Flash feature is a must too!  On the other hand, for video lovers, the ability of the smart phone to record high quality video is also prized.

Some may prefer features which are not covered by this post. These are just the basic features to look for when purchasing your smart phone. It all depends on your lifestyle and budget.
